Making Every Hour Earth Hour

Turning off lights on March 27 is great, but we can all make a difference for the environment 365 days a year!

Here are five easy ways you can start:

BYOB: Bring your own bags. Instead of using the grocery store’s plastic bags, bring your own re-usable cloth bags. These not only help the environment but are much more durable.

Leave the car at home. If you have an errand to run close by or drive the kids to school , consider walking instead. You’ll feel better, get more exercise and will help the environment by reducing your carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. If walking is not an option, take public transit. Either way, you will save on gas.

Hang dry your clothes. Instead of using your energy-guzzling dryer, hang up your clothes to dry either outside in warm weather, or in your laundry room in the winter and on rainy days.

Eat local. Local food is grown close to where it’s being consumed, so it doesn’t travel thousands of miles to reach our plates. Go ahead and fill your plate with yummy local fruits, vegetables and packaged foods.

Get CFL light bulbs. When your old light bulbs burn out, replace them with compact fluorescent lighting (CFL) bulbs. They last longer and use far less energy.

Bonus tip: If you’re already taking any of these actions, become a role model by signing up for Earth Hour and showing Canadians what actions you are already taking.

Boldin, who was entering the final year of his contract, agreed to a three-year, $25 million extension with the Ravens, league sources told ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter, which leaves him with four years, $28 million left on his contract. The extension includes $10 million in guaranteed money.

Baltimore’s top priority this offseason was to bolster a wide receiving corps that last season featured Derrick Mason, Mark Clayton, Kelley Washington and Demetrius Williams. Mason was the lone receiver with 1,000 yards, and running back Ray Rice led the team with 78 receptions.

Here is a breaking news from AP, A Man crashes his plane in an IRS building, in Austin Texas. The attack is thought to be a terrorist attack but soon found out that, it was a grudge against the Internal Revenue Service that causes him to suicide using his plane to the IRS Building.

Here is a more detailed information from Star Tribune

By JIM VERTUNO , Associated Press

Last update: February 18, 2010 - 6:36 PM

AUSTIN, Texas - A software engineer furious with the Internal Revenue Service launched a suicide attack on the agency Thursday by crashing his small plane into an office building containing nearly 200 IRS employees, setting off a raging fire that sent workers running for their lives.

At least one person in the building was missing.

The FBI tentatively identified the pilot as Joseph A. Stack, 53. Law enforcement officials, speaking on condition of anonymity because the investigation was still going on, said that before taking off, Stack apparently set fire to his house and posted a long anti-government screed on the Web. It was dated Thursday and signed “Joe Stack (1956-2010).”

In it, the author cited run-ins he had with the IRS and ranted about the tax agency, government bailouts and corporate America’s “thugs and plunderers.”

“I have had all I can stand,” he wrote, adding: “I choose not to keep looking over my shoulder at ‘big brother’ while he strips my carcass.”

HUNTSVILLE, AL - Three people were killed today at UAHuntsville, and three others were wounded in a shooting that happened just before 4pm. The shooting happened inside the Shelby Center.

Of the three people rushed to Huntsville Hospital, two are in critical condition and one is stabilized, according to Huntsville Hospital Spokesperson Burr Ingram.

Multiple sources confirm the shooting happened during a UAHuntsville Biology Department faculty meeting. We have learned the suspect, a woman, was denied tenure this morning and then went to the faculty meeting and allegedly opened fire. The suspect is in custody.

UAHuntsville Spokesperson Ray Garner said five of the people shot were faculty members, and the sixth is a staff member. That staff member was wounded.

The shooting was called in to police at 4:00pm. Police arrived on campus by 4:01pm, and residence halls were secured by 4:10pm, according to Garner. The building was secured by 4:45pm, and cleared after 5:3pm, Garner said.

U.S President Bill Clinton hospitalized, after suffering from a chest pain, a possible heart problem, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton headed to New York to attend to her husbands operation, more news on this below from Yahoo News.

U.S President Bill Clinton Hospitalized

NEW YORK - Former President Bill Clinton had two stents inserted Thursday to prop open a clogged heart artery after being hospitalized with chest pains, an adviser said.

Clinton, 63, “is in good spirits and will continue to focus on the work of his foundation and Haiti’s relief and long-term recovery efforts,” said adviser Douglas Band.

Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton left Washington and headed to New York to be with her husband, who underwent the procedure at New York Presbyterian Hospital.

Stents are tiny mesh scaffolds used to keep an artery open after it is unclogged in an angioplasty procedure. Doctors thread a tube through a blood vessel in the groin to a blocked artery, inflate a balloon to flatten the clog, and slide the stent into place.

That is a different treatment from what Clinton had in 2004, when clogged arteries first landed him in the hospital. He underwent quadruple bypass surgery because of four blocked arteries, some of which had squeezed almost completely shut.

Angioplasty, which usually includes placing stents, is one of the most common medical procedures done worldwide. More than half a million stents are placed each year in the United States.

With bypass or angioplasty, patients often need another procedure years down the road because arteries often reclog.

“It’s not unexpected” for Clinton to need another procedure now, said Dr. Clyde Yancy, cardiologist at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas and president of the American Heart Association.
